Abstract |
Based on the phenomenological view of housing environments, this study has investigated residents' experiences in the housing environment through the stimuli of housing environment and the residents' responses. The content analysis method was applied to 103 essays of university students. The findings indicated that typical stimuli of housing environment were housing type, arrangement of house, and structure of indoors. Cognitive responses, followed by emotional responses, were the most frequently responded. The emotional experiences in the natural characteristics of communities and outdoors were positive, while those in arrangement of house, arrangement of rooms, and structure of indoors were negative. It was also noteworthy that social aspects of housing environments in neighbors and family, and emotional influence of housing environments on the residents were significant. |
