Abstract Cold-formed channel sections have been increasingly used over the past few decades in a variety of building structures. The design of cold-formed members is governed by stability considerations due to their slenderness. In the present study, a general analytical model applicable to the lateral-torsional buckling of laterally-supported and continuous channel beams subjected to end moments and several types of loadings is developed. This model is based on the classical thin-walled beam theory, and accounts for the coupling of lateral displacement and angle of twist modes for arbitrary loading configuration, and various boundary conditions. Numerical results are obtained addressing the effects of the number and the location of lateral supports on the buckling load of the beam.
