Abstract |
This paper deals with the flexural strengthening effect of RC beams strengthened with aramid, carbon, glass fiber sheets and steel plate. Twenty strengthened RC beams(including control beam) were experimentally evaluated to determine improvements in flexural strength. Performance (deflections, strains and ultimate loads) of RC beams which were preloaded up to 50%, 70% and 85% of the failure load were compared with that of undamaged beams. The variables are a kind of strengthening material, damaged level, strengthening type (B type, U type). The results show that strengthening of damaged beams are structurally efficient and damaged beams strengthened with fiber sheet exhibited ultimate strength and stiffness performance similar to undamaged beams. In addition, the increase of strength ranged from 11 percent to 99 percent over the strength of control beam. |
