Abstract The importance of information management in construction has been widely agreed. For this reason, many universities' architectural engineering department have established the class of information management in construction or introduce this part into existing classes. However the contents of the class have not yet clarified to reflect the complexity of the real world situation. The hard systems method, the foundation of various information management system introduced into construction industry, occupies the main contents of the class although it has a limitation to cope with the complex real world situation. Most of all, the perspectives of various parties involving in the construction project are unique and thus the process to construct a consensus is required. In order to fulfill this requirement, the soft systems method was evolved. The soft systems method play two roles in systems analysis: a tool to construct consensus; a process to clarify problem situations. As the context of any construction projects is unique, the professionals in the industry should have the ability to accomodate these by themselves. This research aims to present a class module for educating students at higher education institutes to obtain the knowledge and skills on implementing soft systems method.
