Abstract Most of the domestic construction companies are lacking in identifying the targets of Knowledge Management, let alone excavating knowledge factors such as sphere of knowledge, provider of knowledge and knowledge items for management of knowledge. Under such circumstances, construction companies should select the items worth Knowledge Management and determine targets of Knowledge Management, after first defining the sphere of Knowledge Management, analyzing systematically the defined sphere to identify knowledge items and excavating the core knowledge on the basis of the identified knowledge items. With respect to the scope and method of this study, the theories and technical areas for Knowledge Management, and the drawing up of the predetermined budgets based on the document of subcontract(Bill of Quantity), and construction areas such as processes were analyzed first, and then the core knowledge for drawing up the predetermined budgets were systematically classified by excavating and identifying the relevant data, information and knowledge. The purpose of this study is to excavate the core knowledge regarding the drawing up of the predetermined budgets recognized to be important for cost control and to develop the knowledge classification systems and knowledge map for control of the core knowledge.
