| Abstract |
This paper aims to propose the planning approaches to utilize the open and underground spaces of the campuses where have been densely developed. Recently, the universities in Seoul have not enough open space because they have fully developed their campuses already to accomodate the increasing student population. To overcome insufficiency of the possible area of development, several universities have been trying to find the ways to use underground space of athletic fields or open plaza area in campuses. Analysing the characteristics of the campus spatial structure and campus development plans of five universities in seoul, this paper made following conclusion to utilize campus space efficiently. 1) Selecting the planning site in the area of concentration of university service facilities. 2) Providing new external and internal semi-public activity spaces to link between surrounding buildings and planning site. 3) Facilitating multi-media internet environment to provide information in order to boost communication and places to meet, and botanical landscape with skylight to be a relaxing atmosphere. 4) Facilitating buffering space to mitigate the conflict between studying and exercising/service area. |
