Abstract Natural ventilation is important element to solve problems of Indoor Air Quality(IAQ) and energy saving in buildings. It is commonly equipped with roof ventilator for natural ventilation to improve the ventilation rate in apartments, factories and multi-houses. The roof ventilators could separated by the using electric power and the not using electric power. In generally, the ventilation performance of the exsiting roof ventilators depends on the wind power than the stack effects.
In A. I. K.(Architectural institute of Korea, 2002. 06), the results between the approximate calculation and the model experiments for stack effects with solar chimney showed in an error of less than 8%. The total ventilation rate equals to stack effects plus wind power. When it has compared the results between the approximate calculation and model experiment on the total ventilation rate, the results of both showed in an error of less than 10% in this paper. Therefore, it could investigated the ventilation performance of the existing roof ventilator by using the approximate calculation. As the results, it is expected that ventilation performance of the existing roof ventilator could improved more than 15%.
