Abstract In his book, De architectura, Vitruvius described six fundamental principles of architecture. Among these six principles Symmetria, Eurythmia and Decor are regarded as an essential to the beauty of architecture. Particularly Decor, for Vitruvius, is that perfection of style which comes from when a work is authoritatively constructed on approved principles. It is my thesis that Decor is a principle of harmony between form and function. It arises from agreement of fundamental rule, custom and nature which create the authoritative appearance of architecture. And it is also a principle regarding perfection of architectural style which arises from usage including invention of ground plan and tectonic principle. Secondly, Decor is a notion, fundamental rule, belonging under the qualitative realm of beauty. It also arises from the satisfaction of both physical and psychological aspects of architecture.
