Abstract |
During the last few decades, several companies and research laboratories have developed construction robots in an effort to improve productivity, quality, and reduce construction time and safety concerns. Recently, domestic construction industry is also interested in developing the construction robots. However, the studies on the research and development(R&D) process model, which includes important research fields, roles and responsibilities of construction and mechatronics professionals, and technical tools for decision making essentially required for R&D of construction robots are insufficient. The primary objective of this study is to propose a R&D process model of construction robots which enables researchers and developers to effectively use the required information according to developing phases of construction robots. In order to develop the process model, several types of literature reviews and interviews are performed. Finally, it is anticipated that the effective use of the proposed R&D process model for developing construction robots would be able to reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of potential risks as well as contributing to accelerate the development of construction robots. |
