Abstract This study is dealt with reduction of hydration heat of 4 layer division-placed mass concrete by the difference of setting time of super retarding agent. According to the results, peak temperature of plain concrete, which does not mix super retarding agent, show 63℃ in the middle of 3rd layer. In the division-placed mock up structure which is controled so that the difference of setting time is 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0day same interval and 1.5 day same interval with change of thickness, setting time is retarded a bit in order of 4 layer to 1 layer, but peak temperature shows 70℃ that is higher than plain concrete. But in mock up structure which is division-placed at the varied interval, peak temperature by hydration heat shows 50℃ that it is reduced by about 13℃, compared with plain concrete because after first peak hydration heat of 4th layer (plain concrete), hydration reaction progresses after the drop of hydration heat in order of 3rd, 2nd and 1st layer. Thus, it is effective for reduction of hydration heat that concrete is division-placed at the varied interval of setting time.
