Abstract |
The objective of the study is to analyze the relationship of visitors’ fatigue and rest area in museum and, in turn, to test the feasibility of controlling visitors’ fatigue by manipulating the environment. The research design which is used in this study is ‘Randomized Solomon Four Group Experimental Design’. 120 college students (88 males, 32 females) who volunteered to participate for the experiments were randomly assigned into four groups (three experiment groups and one control group). Each experiment groups were exposed to the treatments (Xa, Xb, Xc) while the control group didn’t receive any treatment. Before and after the treatment, participants of each group self-reported perceived fatigue and degree of concentration. The result of analysis indicated that; 1) the visitors’ fatigue increased and the degree of concentration was attenuated among the participants of the experiment group who continuously were exposed to the slides without any recess, 2) the recovery of visitors’ fatigue and the degree of concentration was more effective among the participants who experienced the recess while seeing the natural environment, and 3) the visitors’ fatigue increased while the degree of concentration remained same among the participants who experienced the recess while seeing the slides of natural scene. The implications of research findings were also discussed. |
