Abstract |
The purpose of the present study is to find out the characteristics of the spatial configuration about the major space in domestic museums. First of all, it suggests that the major space is one of the most significant factor in order to play a role as a public museum in the real sense. Furthermore. it argues that the spatial openness of the major space is a key factor to evaluate whether it could be a public institution or not. In this respect, the spatial configuration of major spaces is analysed by the openness that can be quantified by the equation suggested in this study. The openness of domestic and foreign museums is compared to see the publicity of Korean contemporary museums. In addition, the movement of visitors is traced to find out how they use the present spatial configuration in Korean museums. The result of the study suggests that museums in Korea are not ready yet to be a public institution. |
