Abstract It is very important to factor in wind data if we hope to achieve Sustainable Environmental Design. By using the wind, we can effect good ventilation in a building and achieve the optimal temperature control in summer and air quality in winter. The wind direction and wind velocity in 29 cities was analyzed to create awind map of Korea. The weather data which was used in this paper came from National Weather Service(1971.1.1~2000.12.31).
The results of this study are 1)The maximum wind velocity could be estimated from the annual average wind velocity. The regression curve Y(the maximum wind velocity)=6.369732X(annual average wind velocity)+6.391668. 2) The wind velocity in inland areas(i.e. areas 25Km or more from the seaside) is smaller than coastal areas. The distance from the sea is major factor of wind velocity. And wind condition referred to as "Calm"(wind velocity under 0.3 m/s), occurs more often in inland areas than coastal areas. 3) An iso-line map of wind velocity for the Korean Peninsula was also obtained. After analyzing the wind velocity and direction in 29 cities, we were able to form a general pattern of wind behavior in Korea
