Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of inorganic pigments on the colors of cement mortar applying L*a*b* color system. For this purpose, the color measurement color was carried out on cement mortar mixed with inorganic pigments by changing the proportion of cement mortar, water-cement ratio, and ratio of pigment. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: When analyzing the color difference(ΔE) of L*a*b* color system specified in KS A 0063 of colored mortar, due to mixing of pigment, red mortar recorded 3.85∼9.81, yellow, green, and black mortar recorded 2.16 ∼7.89, 3.50∼13.44, and 5.63∼15.60 respectively. Since the optimum mix ratio of pigment considering color strength of colored mortar, can be definitely recognized as a color difference, color difference analysis is judged to be a reasonable method of color analysis of colored cement composites. After totally investigating the color difference and chromaticity of the colored cement mortars, the proper dosage of pigment considering the color of the colored cement mortars was found out to be equal to or less than 6% of the weight of the cement.
