Abstract In order to utilize the multiskilled labor, the skill grouping is to be conducted at the early stage of construction. This research presented the skill grouping method considering the factors affecting the skill grouping, and builded a skill grouping model using integer programming and nonlinear programming methods. As decision variables for the model, total hiring manpower(TotalHire), total idling manpower(TotalIdle), and total skill switching manpower(TotalSwitch) were used. For the consideration of project characteristics, coefficients of a, b, and c were used. The objective function of the model was Obj = a*TotalHire + b*TotalIdle + c*TotalSwitch, and the optimum solution was a skill grouping which minimizes the objective function. The model was implemented for one block of an apartment building project. The results about structural works showed that 'form work'-'rebar work' and 'rebar work'-'concrete work' have high possibility of skill grouping. In case of 'form work'-'rebar work' skill grouping, the average hiring period was increased by 100%, and the total hired manpower was decreased by 49%.
