Abstract Architectural education in Korea has been professional and specialized due to be separated into architecture and architectural engineering program. Students entering architecture program in korea are not acquainted with design problem. So studio teaching of fundamental design is needed to upgrade according to credit increases. This study is to investigate and analyze the cases of studio teaching of fundamental design in Korea, U.S.A., U.K., and France, and therefore prepare the guideline and frame of studio teaching model. In the preliminary design studio, goal and contents comprehend the architecture from social culture to tectotnic. Tutors teach students to observe, investigate, analyze and??design environments from landscape, cities and buildings to elements by themselves, and they perceive architecture in general. Projects are consisted with several issues, shot- term, related to thema.
