Abstract The purpose of this research is to investigate into the load carrying capacity for the interaction between web crippling and moment at the intermediate support of multi span deck plate beam. Through analytical and experimental investigation, the relative codes are systematically compared with test results, analysed and statistically evaluated. The experiments are carried out by using full scale 74 specimens that could be classified into two types: negative and positive moment experiments. Structural systems are simplified as alternative systems suggested in EC3 (Eurocode3). Test results are compared with AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute) and EC3 codes. An improved formula based on the present AISI code formula for deck plate is proposed. The validity of application of two codes are statistically evaluated.
