Abstract The purpose of this study was to find out a composition of the exterior space of upper-class residence in the mid Josun dynasty through Visual Perception. this study newly defines Visual Perception as the visual form and depth of exterior space, directional impulse. By the Visual perception method, The results of this study are as follows ; (1) The Each of exterior space has a specific visual form depending on a spacial characteristic, and mainly has the spacial form of a U-shaped vertical plan and a L-shaped verticla plan. (2) The visual depth of exterior space is mainly shown through 'perspective effect' most residential space. However, in 'sarang-madang' and 'an-madang', the visual depth through 'frame effect' is appealed. (3) the directional impluse is mostly caused by 'the partial open of space' and door. the one caused by 'the composition of axis' is shown in most residential space
