Abstract This paper presents an application case study of the Resource-constrained Critical Path Method (RCPM).??RCPM is a heuristic algorithm to identify resource-dependent activity relationships (resource links) during resource-constrained scheduling.??Through resource links, the schedule provides reliable activity floats and the critical path, which traditional resource-constrained scheduling techniques hardly provide.??A prototype RCPM system is developed based on the algorithm.??The RCPM system is integrated with Primavera Project Planner (P3), so it imports the project data directly from a P3 project, performs required RCPM procedures, and updates the P3 project to establish an RCPM schedule.??The system is also equipped with functions to handle PDM logic relationships, multiple calendars, and progressed schedules.??This paper reviews the key elements of the RCPM procedures and demonstrates how it can be applied to scheduling control and analyzing delay impacts.
