| Abstract |
This paper aims to do the comparative study on the morphology and housing typology of traditional urban residential areas of Korea, China and Japan. As sample cities for comparison, I have taken the cities of Kyungjoo, Seoul, Xian, Beijing and Kyoto for the purpose of this study. Considering their long history as neighboring nations, three countries are believed to have many similarities and differences in urban residential environments. In this study, block, lot and housing types are analyzed on the basis of same criteria. As a result, the following factors have been found. Firstly, as for the block, China had bigger one in size than that of Korea and??Japan, in which it had around 120m square shape of block. Secondly, as for the lot, China had a bigger than that of Korea and??Japan. And, even though Korea had almost square shape of lot, slender shape of lot was well developed in China and Japan, in the urban residential areas. And thirdly, as for housing type, China had bigger in size than that of Korea and??Japan. And for the shape of housing, it had a similar characteristic as that of lot shape. |
