Abstract The Ddeulzips are the middle and noble class houses of Chosun Dynasty in Andong cultural area. The styles of space construction in Ddeulzip are classified into quadrangular, linked and separate types. The quadrangular-type is a shape completely enclosed by structural space. The separate-type is built with two or three buildings. The linked-type is constructed with one building, but unclosed with any space. The objective of this research is to investigate the typological characteristics of linked-type Ddeulzip. The linked-type is characterized by "spacing" and "connecting". "Spacing" is the pattern expressed in??the separate-type, and "connecting" is the method of rectangular-type. The patterns of "spacing" are divided into??front, side and back types by the position, and far, attached and composite types by the distance. The "connecting" patterns are divided into regular and irregular types according to axis and unit of structure. "Spacing" is shown mostly in a side-composite types (53%), and "connecting" is shown mostly in irregular types (77%). The patterns of linked-type are the result of various construction processes. According to the method of "spacing" and "connecting", the linked-type Ddeulzip is intermediated between quadrangular-type and separate-type, and constructed with exceptional styles.
