Abstract As Urbanization has rapidly proceeded, the accumulated economic expands, but the related problems from it are appeared seriously. For instance, the exhausted gas from vehicles pollutes the air, and traffic confusion makes worse with an increase of them. It is situated that the transit theory has recently grown and developed since 90c to meet with common problems. To faithfully understand this, I studied on the related fields of transit oriented development which are similar to main concepts and contents such as Stockholm`s New Town, Mixed use Development, Sustainable Communities, New Urbanism, Pedestrian Pocket, and Traditional Neighborhood Development. Particularly, I made a focus on Peter Calthorpe`s T.O.D. theory because it directly roots on the Public transportation, and is the most general ideas in the subject. Therefore this thesis reached as following results. I found that T.O.D. ultimate goal is to pursuit well mixed used, pedestrian friendly neighborhood, the compactness of urban development, and convenient transit exchange systems. T.O.D. guidelines are classified and applied as the regulation of system(transit, street, pedestrian, and bicycle), of allocation of building use(public, residential, and parking), and of areas(CBD, and secondary areas) when the planning of development establishes.
