Title Trend Analysis of the Image and Component Features of Periodical Interior of Korean House Living Rooms Since the 1970s

Abstract As a basic study to predict the trend of new interior design, the purpose of this study lies in analyzing the image and features of each periodic interior design centered on Korean house living room from the 1970s to the 2000s and in grasping the trend of chronological change in interior design.
Through the extraction of each periodic image and evaluation structure of house living room using repertory grid method and chronological feature analysis of house living room design, we analyzed the trend change of image and feature of periodic living room design and then presented the direction to be taken hereafter for living room design.
Results of the research on design feature are as follows. There is an increase in simple and sleek form and inelaborate spatial construction using minimal furniture and decorative constituent and also a growing preference for plain and geometric patterns. Furthermore the current situation shows an expanding use of artificial materials such as glass, concrete and steel and of architectural lighting or lighting of simple and sleek form. In the aspect of color, there is a continuous use of warm colors in the YR or Y system and use of subdued colors of low tone and increasing use of monotone colors.
Results of research on the trend of image are as follows. 1) 「bright」, 「warm」and「comfortable」images were common throughout the whole period. 2)「desultory」, 「stifling」, 「dark」images appeared in the 1970s. 3) In the 1980s「awkward」,「desultory」,「pastoral」,「refreshing」,「archaic」,「refined」,「natural」images appear frequently. 4) In the 1990s 「awkward」,「sleek」,「open」,「roomy」,「cold」,「splendid」,「archaic」,「smooth」images emerge. 5) Appearing in the 2000s are images describing「simple」,「open」,「refreshing」,「cold」,「urban」,「changeable」,「intense」,「unique」,「smooth」.
