Abstract |
The object of this paper is to investigate experimentally the ultimate strength and to evaluate the effect of stiffened plate T-joints made of cold-formed square hollow steel sections with plate. The T-joint focused on the type a branch member that is using the single plate or double plate and welded to the chord member whose flange is stiffened with plate. Principal parameters are the ratio of the chord??width to thickness(2γ=33.3, 22.2, 16.7), the ratio of a branch member plate thickness to chord width(βp=0.30, 0.62), and the thickness of stiffening plate. ??The result from 11 specimens tested in compression indicate that the branch member plate to thickness stiffened plate is an important parameter on the behaviour in joint. The test result shows that the capacity of the stiffened joint increases with thicker stiffening plate. According to flange stiffened or unstiffened, the failure mode of the specimen is stiffened with plate changes from M2 (flange failure) to M3(combined failure) or M1(web failure). |
