Abstract In this paper I analyze the characteristics of the spatiality shown in the discourse of Ando Tadao and Steven Holl on body(shintai) through their theories & works. Results are as follows : the concept of their spatiality means 'topoi', which is experienced through body(shintai) based on the integration of body and mind. This spatiality appears in various terms such as??sentiment- fundamental space, the interstitial zone, and temporal non-continuity in spatial experiences(Ando Tadao), and??phenomenal experiences of space, the indeterminate in between, and phenomenal spatial field(Steven Holl). Especially the new features as the interstitial zone and indeterminate are connoted in the discourse of body(shintai)-spatiality which requires the participation of body (shintai). And they are also specified by means of various design devices such as??the spatial displacement by circuitous route, the wall as territorial delineation, and phenomenological of nature and light. And I also suggest the possibility of permeation into space(how to saturate architectural space) as the means of new approaches to designing.
