Abstract This research is focused on the enhancement of capabilities for 2D data representation to the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) 2.X. IFC2.X has been developed solely based on 3D object oriented model. Therefore, One of the critical defects of IFC is that it is impossible to represent 2D elements, essential for the presentation of drawing elements. On top of that, the drawing information in IFC format can not be exchanged among the international standard complied formats such as KOSDIC, SCADEC, and STEP-CDS which are based on STEP AP202 subset. The main purpose of this research is to enhance the existing capability of IFC to represent 2D drawing elements. To achieve this goal, the presentation resources, based on ISO 10303-46 and ISO 10303- 202, are annexed to the resource layer of IFC2.X. For the representation of 2D drawings, a Layer entity, Curve_styles entity, Text entity, Symbol entity, Hatch entity, Bezier curve entity, Dimension entity have been extended to the IFC2.X.
