Abstract |
Although Asplund started his architectural works with National Romanticism under strong cultural tradition, following one extreme adventure of Modernism at Stockholm Exhibition in 1930, he tried to combine modern architecture with existing context. Gothenburg Law Courts Extension would be the best example for this purpose. He applied two different design strategies to this project. He designed exterior under the principle of unity and harmony considering existing building. On the other hand, he used contrast and juxtaposition of space in the configuration of interior. Final result was rated one of the best example which showed modernity in architecture without losing the meaning of the context including site, region and cultural tradition. |
