| Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to find out the expression method of the planar characteristics in modern plastic art. Through investigating Adolf Hildebrand & Wilhelm Worringer's theory and De Stijl's design concept & Rietveld's interpretation of the planar characteristics, we defined the?? planar characteristics and analyzed Rietveld's works in 1918～1925. At the result, we can draw the following conclusions. First, through the operation of imaginary planes, modern plastic artists expressed the planar characteristics. Second, they decomposed closed-cubic form with using construction of anti-cubic. Third, they was emphasized planar property by the composition of separately floating planes like painting. Fourth, they used detachment of corner of architecture, furniture, lighting for looking like planar form. Fifth, they leaded into interrupting the cubic property of construction material through coloring pieces. This method leads into new conception of architectural space and gave a clue of the expression method of the planar characteristics in modern architecture. |
