Abstract The flexural behavior of the damaged reinforced concrete beams strengthened with various kind of strengthening materials is presented in this paper. That is, the purpose of this study is to investigate how much the capacity of the beam is improved by strengthening of RC beams, and to develop the empirical equation for maximum capacity of strengthened RC beams. The analytical procedure is compared with results of experimental data available in the literatures. The results of flexural test are analyzed and compared with the test results of specimens which were not strengthened and theoretic values. A comparison of the measured results and analytical results based on the equilibrium of forces and compatibility of deformations indicated that the behavior of strengthened beams can be predicted with reasonable accuracy. Also, the proposed equation showed the good agreement with the previous test data obtained from many different researchers.
