Abstract |
Architecture, as a profession, is a specialized knowledge-based occupation.??Professionalization is considered as a process wherein an organized occupation negotiates the right to perform certain types of work and to have a controlling influence in training for and, hence, entry into the occupation and in determining the evaluation the way in which work is performed.??The path for professionalization of architecture has been shaped by the types of knowledge and the contingent skills claimed by architects.??In executing occupational control, the professional power of architecture is related to technicality (i.e., the transferable component by standardization and routinization) and indeterminacy(i.e., the non- transferable component such as artistic mastery and new knowledge generation) elements of professional knowledge.?? Generally, the indeterminacy/technicality ratio is relatively high in professional knowledge.??In healthcare architectural firms, however, the reversed ratio is found.??The reversed ratio is one of the major issues associated with the decreased professional power of architects. |
