Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to estimate the environmental load intensity of construction materials for a building LCA. As the methodology and data, energy based I/O model and I/O table(published in 1995 by Bank of Korea) ware analysed and adopted, and finally energy consumption and the carbon dioxide emission intensity of construction materials was calculated. The result of the energy intensity of construction materials shows that, in the case of the plastic products and steel plates such as steel rods and bars etc among major construction materials, the indirect energy consumptions are higher than the direct energy consumptions. On the other hand, in the case of glass, cement, and gypsum board, the direct energy consumptions are higher than the indirect energy consumptions. The carbon dioxide emissions are generally in proportion to the energy consumptions in most materials, but, in some cases, the carbon dioxide emissions are not proportional to the energy consumptions in their amount. This indicates that even though the same amount of energy are used, the final carbon dioxide emissions could be different according to their production process and the source of energy used. Finally, by the comparison of the results between this research and Japanese‘s, we find that the result of this research shows the similar energy consumption pattern of Japanese's. |
