Abstract Recently construction of high-rise buildings is increasing in cities to maximize the usage of land in Korea. Since structural frame work in high-rise buildings have the largest component of duration and cost, accelerating schedule and reducing construction cost are important factors in the structural frame work. Therefore, the duration and construction cost trade-off are necessary to complete a structural frame economically. Accelerating schedule is more important than reducing construction cost in Korea because duration of high-rise buildings have large risk in finance. For accelerating schedule, the cycle time of structure work is shortened by these two methods: (1) forms are stripped early without cracking the concrete and increasing the deflection of slabs or girders by using the higher strength concrete than the designed one; (2) the number of form sets is increased. Although using the higher strength concrete and increasing the number of form sets result in increasing the direct construction cost, the budget cost is decreased by shortening the cycle time of structural frame work.
