Abstract As the cities are becoming more refined and unique in their appearance, the greater the necessity of??exterior lighting is also becoming for improving the image of the city. In this study, we suggested and tested a systematic and objective evaluation method of exterior lighting in office buildings. For this we made a general review of the history and standard of lighting design and investigate foreign and domestic cases of office building lighting. Also we analysed preceding studies on the design process and evaluation of exterior lighting, and derived pretest evaluation elements through interviews with specialists in lighting design. We performed interviews based on the pre- tested elements and made statistical analyses including correlative analysis, analysis of variance, and factor analysis, and suggested an evaluation method of lighting design in office buildings. It should be appraised according to "Interest/Anxiety", "Beauty of Form", "Uniqueness", "Contribution to City's View", "Recognition", "Three Dimensional Expression", "Quality of Light", "Appropriate Illumination", "Glare", "Existence of Light Pollution", and "Reflection of Use".
