Abstract This study aims to prove unreasonable rules of outdoor service facilities on investigating how household density influences the amount of outdoor service facilities in housing and outdoor space excluding outdoor service facilities, and to propose methods improving the regulation of outdoor service facilities in consideration of residential environment's quality. For this purpose, the whole outdoor space is divided into two different-quality areas, 1st outdoor space and 2nd outdoor space; The former consists of landscape area and outdoor space excluding 2nd outdoor space. The latter is composed of outdoor sports facilities, playgrounds for children, roads and outdoor parking facilities. The 2nd outdoor space was revealed to increase in area with a rise of household density and in consequence of that the 1st outdoor space, on the contrary, diminishes. To complete even and good quality of residential environment in the whole outdoor space, the regulation of outdoor service facilities should be applied in accordance with household density and we should legislate a regulation on outdoor space excluding outdoor service facilities as well as meet the areas of outdoor service facilities.
