Abstract |
This paper is concerned with the damping ratio of reinforced concrete apartment buildings. It describes the vibration measurement methods employed for testing buildings and presents reliable methods of assessing damping ratios from micro tremor and synchronized human excitation. Data from measurements on 17 buildings in Seoul are given. All of 17 buildings are tested by micro tremor measurements to obtain the damping ration in the low amplitude range. Synchronized human excitations are carried for 10 of 17 buildings to compare the value of damping ratio obtained by micro tremor measurements. Regression formula of damping ratios for RC apartment buildings are suggested in the function of natural frequency. The damping ratio shows a dependence on natural frequency. the effect of amplitude dependent damping ratio showed very low. |
