Abstract Based on the matrix approach, an investigation is made to get the forces and displacements of torsional loaded core structures with torsional reinforcements, and show the effect of torsional reinforcements on the behavior of the core structures. ??Using the boundary conditions at the reinforcement locations and the both ends of the core, the torsional rotation, St venant torsional moment, and bimoment are derived analytically. The optimum location of torsional reinforcements is obtained by maximizing the reduction of the torsional rotation at the top of core structures, and the effect of reinforcement stiffness on the optimum locations of torsional reinforcements is examined. ??Although the analysis presented herein is based on certain simplifying assumptions, it is believed that the results do provide sufficiently accurate information for determining the optimum location of torsional reinforcements in core structures. Significant reductions in core rotation can be obtained by judiciously selecting the locations.
