Abstract This paper analyzes on the circumstances, causes for moving out, and the residences after relocation of residents who had moved out of the 20 Life Support Houses(Residential Part) for the elderly, located in the depopulated regions, Oita Prefecture, Japan. According to the survey results, out of total 299 households, the average age of residents who had moved out was 80 years old, and the average residential period in the Life Support Houses was 2 years. The causes for moving out can be divided into two: 76.4 percent was physical(health- related) reasons and 23.6 percent was non-physical reasons. When residents wished to move back to their own houses after moving out of the Life Support Houses, they couldn't do so because the houses didn't exist any longer(22.5 percent). Another reason was that they couldn't procure any caretakers(81.9 percent). It was found that 15 percent of the residents couldn't move back in to their previous houses, and 69.1 percent moved away from the previous residential area.
