Abstract It is thought that the structural stability of buildings can be adopted as a feeling of safety through the perception of the visual stability. From this point of view, the purpose of this study is to investigate methods for the structural stability of framed buildings and its formal characteristics through its static function, and to grasp them as potentials for architectural expression. Stability of a building depends on the geometric form and arrangement of its structural elements. Structural stability of framed buildings, in its static function, can be summarized that it makes efficient flow of forces by means of relationship of elements. And, in its role for architectural form, visualization of static function has a function to transfer the physical stability to safety of sensibility. Therefore, elements of stability and their organizational methods in framed buildings can be a factor for formal composition, expression of static function on the basis of technological correctness forms a kind of architectural language through the organic characteristics among elements of organization.
