Abstract Despite the fact that demented elderly cared at home accounts for over 90% of the total demented elderly, dementia-related researched in the field of environment have been limited to theories and experiments about design of facilities in Korea. In the light of such development, this study assesses the adequacy of the current housing environment for the life quality of the families with demented elderly people and suggests desirable housing environment improvements that can meet the requirements. This study particularly puts the emphasis on the findings and summarizes the different requirements for improvement that vary according to the types and degrees of dementia. For this study, we examined 30 cases of subjects that were sorted out of the main caregivers of demented elderly living in the Seoul Metropolitan area using purpose sampling and also in-depth qualitative investigative method was employed.?? What's most important is that housing development should be conducted in cooperation with the community so that welfare service for home care can be diffused across the whole community and housing environment for the families with demented elderly can be improved.
