Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to investigate existing design methods of RBS-B connections and to suggest new formulas for calculating strength of RBS-B connections. In the existing design methods (FEMA350), the RBS-B connections should provide the sufficient strength that can reach the plastic moment capacity of the connected beam. However, according to experimental studies, beams in the RBS-B connections can not reach their plastic moment capacities prior to beam fracture because the strength of web connected with fasteners is less than the strength of all welded web. This caused flange fracture in early loading stage. This study provides the strength formula for RBS-B connections that account for the effect of fasteners. |
