Abstract The present paper proposes a new proportioning method for member sections of rigidly jointed 2- way grid single layer reticulated domes. The effects of??additional bending moment caused by compressive stress are noticeable to decide the sectional properties of the members. In this study, the second-order elastic analysis is used for an assumption on amplification of stresses. This method includes elasto?plastic behaviors, instability of the members and the overall shell buckling. To confirm the validity of this method, firstly pin supported 2-way grid single layer reticulated domes subjected to uniform load are designed by this method and then it is discussed how the domes satisfy the required load conditions, and lastly it is verified by the inelastic buckling analysis
