Abstract Steel-concrete composite column is a new composite column system, where links are welded between two flanges of H-shapes steel, and concrete is filled in space between two flanges. In this study, SC composite column composed of the noncompact section was tested in order to estimate its axial compressive capacity. The parameters of test were composite effect, the space of link, width-thickness ratio, and the shape of link. The results showed that SC composite column composed of the noncompact section increased the axial compressive capacity, that closer link space improved the post-ultimate load behavior, that the delay effect of the local buckling was improved by link and concrete. The plate link also improved the post-ultimate load behavior and the delay effect of the local buckling. The calculation of axial compressive capacity of SC composite column was suitable for the formula of Tremblay and the formula of ACI Code.
