A Study on the Planning of Infant Nursing Rooms of Child Care Centers in U.S.A. |

Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to understand the present condition about the space planning and furnishing of the infant nursing rooms of the child care centers in San Francisco Bay Areas, U.S.A.. The study was conducted in two parts. First, we investigated the physical condition of the centers through sketching, measuring, taking pictures and observation. Second, to understand the user's need, the interview to the directors of the centers was performed. As a result, the followings were proposed. The Korean guideline for the nursing grouping for the infant has to be sub-divided by the development stages. And the ratio between infant and teachers has to be improved than present regulation. The functional areas such as toilet, washing space(changing diaper table), space for preparing milk(kitchenet) and also napping room have to be well organized into the nursing rooms specially for the infant. Various ideas for arranging above functions in the small nursing rooms have to be developed. The new standard guidelines for the furnishing of the nursing room by the ages should be developed. |
