Abstract |
This paper describes the structural behavior of T-joints using square hollow sections with longitudinal branch plate that is used to connect brace and high tension tie bar. Principal parameters are the ratio of chord widte to thickness(16.7≤2γ(B/T)≤31.3) and branch plate to chord width(0.20≤β(b1/B)≤0.85). The results from 12 specimens tested in compression indicated that failure mode changed from chord flange failure mode to chord web failure mode at β = 0.75. The dominant failure mode was chord flange failure for β≤0.75. According to variety of longitudinal branch plate length, the capacity of strength was less than increasing branch plate length. The strength formulae of CIDECT and other researchers are compared with the test results, and finally design guidelines have been presented based on Bae's strength formula for longitudinal branch plate T-joints. |
