Abstract The primary objective of this investigation is to study the behavior and determine the ultimate load of laterally and vertically reinforced concrete beams using precast concrete formwork subjected to vertical load. The authors also propose to derive an empirical formula that can be applied to the design of precast form beam structures at ultimate load. Precast form beams can be used as separate elements or in association with other load-bearing elements such as masonry walls. The provision of precast form beams in masonry walls increases the wall stiffness and reduce the length of process. The use of precast form system offers the advantage of utilizing reinforced concrete-filled elements without eliminating the need for formwork. Reinforcement increases the bending and shear strength of the elements and also enables the design of cross sections that are smaller than equivalent unreinforced elements.
