Abstract The purpose of this study was to grasp the current characteristics in interior space composition, for use as reference data for developing future apartment plan. The content analysis method was used for this study. The data of apartment unit plans were collected from apartment construction companies. This study dealt with model-house unit plans built between 1998 and 2001 in Seoul and the metropolitan area. The sample consisted of 343 unit plans. The results of this study were as follows; 1) Regarding area, the bedrooms occupied the largest proportion of the whole unit area, and entrance and storage occupied the smallest. 2) Most unit plans had private space separated from public space and L-DK type meaning the living room isolated from the dining room and kitchen. 3) Private room were usually located between kitchen and the entrance space. But the kitchen space in the largest unit was often located near the entrance space due to work-efficiency. Detailed tendency in floor plan provided an opportunity to people into current korean housing culture.
