Abstract The purpose of this study was to identify the preferences about silver town of the pre-elderly group. The results of the study will provide some useful information for the development of silver town and for further study. The sample of the study was 566 pre-elderly group who were age 50s living in Seoul metropolitan area. The samples were stratified according to region, gender, and housing structure type. The main results of study showed that silver town was the most preferable elderly housing alternative for pre-elderly group. Respondents also wanted to live in a silver town when they are not only heathy but also unhealthy and living alone. Therefore, silver town should be carefully planned to provide continuing care for the rest of residents' life regardless of changing their life situation. Education level of spouse and average monthly income, total asset, and life satisfaction level were the major variables which showed significant differences in preferences about silver town. Other results and recommendation for further research were included.
