Abstract Housing is one of the most important issues in the consideration of social welfare for the elderly. The purpose of this study is to offer basic research data of planning and to cope with coming aged society through architectural design proposal of proper urban type user-charged residential facilities to live continuously where they are. As a result, 1. As selecting location, elderly welfare facilities need to be located in 10 minutes on foot or by vehicle that giving consideration to physical characteristic of elderly's. 2. mixed-use development is needed, 3. the type of facility is would be sheltered housing, 4. small scale facility management in urban go to local govern institution or non profit private organization for stability. 5. building layout would rather be better in one building with vertical function separation, and atrium layout which is dominate in Europe and Japan and, offer strong community need to be taken into consideration. 6. the preference of room size by survey is 7-9 (pyung) for single and 11-17(pyung) for couple, 7. the scale of building is about 50 unit with 2-3 story would be proffered scale in urban area.
