Abstract This study addresses the changes in the 20th architectural education of the United States, focusing on investigating the changes in the inter-relationship between the educational needs and the educational contents.??The research results reveal that there have been a lot of changes in the educational needs and the contents; the changes can be categorized into three distinctive periods such as the period of using educational resource-oriented standards, performance-based standards, and integration- based standards.??By doing this research, it will be possible to recognize a mechanism which effectively improve the educational system in such a way of meeting the needs from the architectural practice.??Thus, although this research deals with the education of the United States, it would be employed for launching and improving the architectural accrediting system in Korea.
