Abstract Corrosion of reinforcing bars embedded in concrete structures influences lifespan negatively and makes losses. In order to make longer lifespan and prevent losses, a qualitative measurement technique which can measure the corrosion level of reinforcing bar need to be developed. The purpose of this study is to develope the technique to measure the corrosion of reinforcing bars using infrared thermal photography graphic data. The result of experimental study shows that a test body emits stronger infrared thermal distribution on concrete surface which contains relatively more corroded reinforcing bar. Based on the infrared thermography database which constructed by the atmosphere temperature and concrete cover depth and many other test parameters, a qualitative corrosion evaluation can be made by comparing laboratory test results and the real site test results.
